Arena Stage offers workshops and residencies for
pre-K-college students, teachers, artists, schools,
community agencies, hospitals, corporations, and
private functions.
Where:
Workshops can take place at Arena Stage or at your
location.
Who: Workshops are offered for students – grades
pre-K – college – and adults.
Length: A one-time workshop can range from 60
minutes to a full day.
Residency: A residency is a series of two or more
workshops.

Arena Stage tailors theater workshops for your
group, school or organization to address your
current needs. Speak with Arena’s Community
Engagement staff to determine how to create the best
experience for your group. Arena’s staff is highly
trained to work with a wide range of participants –
from those with no prior experience to those
interested in advanced theater techniques.

The Art of the Ensemble
Learn and experience how a well-run classroom or
group can benefit from the secrets of a performing
ensemble. Deepen trust, agreement, support and the

Advanced Problem-Solving
Individually and as a group, solve creative and
uniquely fashioned situations, learning effective
problem-solving methods applicable to school and
work.
Practical Creativity
Delve into the creative process through
improvisation and informed decision-making. Learn to
trust your own ideas and create a positive working
environment.
Acting for Effective
Communication
Enhance presentation skills by improving projection,
body language, pronunciation and personal presence
through accessible performance skills.
Your Community Story
Discover the beauty and poignancy of personal and
community stories through improvisation and
collaborative presentation.
Original Monologue Writing
Create dynamic character monologues through a strong
and engaging writing process.
Playwriting
Explore the basic elements of playwriting, focusing
on the ten-minute play structure.
The Actor’s Toolbox
Mind, body, voice and teamwork are the fundamental
tools of a performer. Learn approachable techniques
to strength performance, communication and
cooperation skills.
Moving Stories: Literature and
Drama
Integrating literature and creative drama, explore
picture books, short stories or novels through an
interactive and comprehensive lesson. Lessons
feature excellent approaches for a variety of
literacy skills and may be customized to reading
curricula.
Theater Games
Learn an array of winning, enjoyable and educational
theater games, exercises and warm-ups to skill build
and apply across curricula.

A series of two or more workshop sessions
For a more intensive experience for your group,
any number of our workshops can be combined to
create a residency. Residencies can explore multiple
topics or can focus on a single topic, advancing in
subsequent sessions.

Professional Development
Workshops for Teachers, Artists and Youth Workers
Through academics and innovation, Arena Stage offers
several quality workshops for educators to enliven
and deepen learning. Topics range from hip hop
appreciation to stage combat; from making masks to
devising original plays.

Student Playwrights Project Year-Long Residency
and Development Program
The Student Playwrights Project is the area’s
leading arts education program dedicated to the
promotion, instruction and presentation of American
voices through the arts of theater, playwriting and
performance.
Teachers apply to receive 35 hours of professional
development, a resident teaching artist for one
school year, student theater tickets, master classes
and mentorship. Their students write individual
ten-minute plays and complete a collaborative,
group-written play to be performed at Arena Stage.
