Message: The Arthur Miller Festival Death of a Salesman A View from the Bridge in rotating repertory Mar. 14 – May 18, 2008 Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, acclaimed by The New York Times as “one of the finest dramas in the whole range of American theater.” Willy Loman made his living riding on a smile and a shoeshine. Faced with the end of his career, he’s haunted by missed opportunities and a troubled past. This gripping tragedy is as powerful and relevant today as when it premiered almost 60 years ago. A lesser-known work from this literary giant, A View from the Bridge also examines the promise and failure of the American Dream. Brooklyn longshoreman Eddie Carbone lives in a tight-knit Italian neighborhood with his wife and adopted daughter. When two of his wife’s cousins enter the country illegally, Eddie desperately tries to keep his family from unraveling in a tale of love, betrayal and revenge. On Monday evenings, the Festival will feature readings, screenings and lectures exploring Miller’s other work. For more information, visit Arena Stage online at www.arenastage.org.
