Sound Technician

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, a national center for the production, presentation, development, and study of the American Theater, seeks an experienced candidate for the Sound Technician position.

The Sound Technician will be responsible for installation, operation, maintenance and strike of audio/video equipment and media utilized in Arena Stage productions. The Sound Technician will assist the Sound Director in sound department related duties, including technical support of Mead Center events and rentals.

Responsibilities include

  • Operate and maintain sound and / or video for productions and events.
  • Assist with production sound work in the recording studio.
  • Assist with systems maintenance as required.
  • Keep Sound Director informed of problems or malfunctions.


Two years’ production sound and/or video experience. Ability to operate variety of modern digital audio recording/playback equipment, particularly Yamaha digital consoles and QLab. Understanding of reinforcement sound system operations. Proficiency at live reinforcement mixing (mid to large scale musicals). Knowledge of wireless RF equipment operation utilized in live entertainment. Knowledge of communication systems operation and repair (ClearCom). Some knowledge of basic electronics troubleshooting, soldering, and cable fabrication. Experience programming Dataton Watchout software and projections installation a plus. Use of both hands and excellent hearing.
